THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN: AIRCREW FROM AUSTRALIA, THEIR AIRCRAFT, AND A MODELLER'S GUIDE

The Battle of Britain, arguably one of world history's most important battles, was fought between 10 July and 31 October 1940. Nearly 3,000 RAF aircrew from around the world fought in this battle and would come to be known as "The Few," qualifying for the "Battle of Britain Clasp."

This book, comprising 260 pages, identifies "The Few" who came from Australia to fly in the Battle of Britain, and some of the aircraft they flew. The Battle, and some of the events leading up to it, are briefly described to put into context the accomplishments of these men. Each person has a condensed biography designed to give the reader familiarity with the man, his life and achievements, and some appreciation of what they experienced during the Battle.

The aircraft these men flew were under constant technological development and change. As the RAF transitioned from peace to war, it continually refined the camouflage and markings of its equipment. Many of the changes to the way these aircraft were equipped and finished before and during the Battle are described.

Finally, there is information on some of the places that commemorate the Battle of Britain today, offering the reader the opportunity to find places where they might better remember those who sacrificed so much.

This book will provide an essential guide to modellers who wish to build these planes from the Battle of Britain. While the details in this book have been compiled to assist modellers, researchers, and casual readers will also hopefully find something of value, so that the memory of these men, and their compatriots, will be maintained.
